Loudoun Parents Launch Political Action Committee to Protect Equity for All Students and Community Members

Loudoun County, VA Appalled by the efforts to recall legitimately elected Loudoun County School Board members and outraged by the hate speech spewed at recent school board meetings, a group of local parents stepped up to make sure other voices would be heard.   The result was the creation of Loudoun for All, a political action committee to support policies and campaigns that champion equity for all in Loudoun County,

“When only the most reactionary and extreme people speak, we end up with a very skewed idea of what our community really cares about,” said founding Board Member Amanda Bean.   “The fact is, equity for all our students and community members is not a controversial stance. The vast majority of people believe that all students and community members deserve to feel safe and respected.”

“It’s time to mobilize our actions and resources to stand together on behalf of our shared values,” said Loudoun for All Board Member Todd Kaufman.  “Those promoting bigotry in our community are spreading misinformation and outright lies.  Enough is enough.”

“We’ve spent the time since the disastrous last school board meeting having conversations with parents of impacted students and community leaders, building consensus around establishing a simple organization with a simple mission,” said parent and founding donor Ayala Sherbow.  “Loudoun for All will champion equity for everyone that calls Loudoun home.  Everyone. We will not allow voices of fear and prejudice to divide us.”

Volunteers from local groups found themselves struggling with the bandwidth to counter the messages of hate proliferating throughout the County. The formation of Loudoun 4 All will provide the structure and opportunity to coordinate messaging, calendars, and action items across groups with similar goals. Loudoun 4 All does not intend to duplicate existing efforts or draw volunteers or dollars away from existing groups; but instead hopes to be a valuable resource to them.

The founding Board Members of Loudoun for All are all parents of LCPS students in grades two through 12 with deep roots in our community. Within days, initial donations have surpassed thousands of dollars, from more than 20 individual pledges. “Right now we intend to use this money to spread the truth and counter the lies about transgender young people, critical race theory, and LCPS equity efforts. These lies are being spread by forces outside our beautiful County who seek to influence us. There is no reason equity in our schools should be this controversial,” says Loudoun for All President, Rasha Saad.
